Hi, my name is Zach. I'm a Tempe native and this is my last semester for my major in Geography. Hiking is one of the things that defines me and I've enjoyed exploring various jungle areas in Guatemala and a couple volcanoes, but my favorite outdoor place in the US is the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. One of my favorite places in Arizona is Fossil Springs, but I always enjoy exploring the Superstitions and Sierra Ancha Wilderness areas.
One of my favorite outdoor stories would be a hike to some Indian ruins in the Sierra Anchas. Though we were not prepared for rain at all, we hiked in not only pouring rain, but snow as well. We realized after that day that we should have been smarter and postponed the hike, but all in our group agreed that despite the danger we faced we wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The trip included cold conditions, climbing a few waterfalls, scrambling up a cliff to the ruins, and "mud surfing" back down.
